Hi friends! I am looking for resources that I can give to students who are wrestling through questions regarding their sexuality - specifically trying to figure out if they are gay or not. Obviously the Word and engaging relationally are crucial here, but I want a good book that I can give them that will help them out. Any suggestions for me to check out?
Thanks,
Kev
Kev,
Here is an awesome website that has stuff for students/leaders/parents. http://exodusyouth.net/ Very good stuff!
I think that the best way to approach this is for their best resource to be you & their small group leader, not a book or a video, or anything else.
A great resource for you would be Andrew Marin’s book Love Is An Orientation
I totally agree regarding the relational approach, which is what we are taking. I am also reading Marin’s book now. What I am trying to get my hands on is a book that I can give the student directly that will help them in addition to what we are already doing.
Thanks,
Kev
Thanks!
Hey Kevin,
Sorry that I’m a little late to the game on this post. I had CIY High School Conference last and seminary classes the last couple of days.
There is a guy here in Central IL named Kent Paris. He has spoken regularly at the seminary I attend. He was gay and found Jesus and with a lot of help, has come out of it. But he runs an organization called “Nehemiah Ministries.”
Here is some contact information for him. He writes a powerful newsletter… but I don’t know if they have a website or not. If he didn’t have something to put in your hands, he would likely know where to get it.
Kent is the Founder and Director of Nehemiah Ministries in Urbana, IL. Sherri, his wife, serves as Office Manager. Kent and Sherri in Urbana, IL. You can contact Kent at Nehemiah Ministries, P.O. Box 773 Urbana, IL 61803 or by phone: 217-344-4636.
Hope that helps!
Jim
Thanks to everyone for the leads. Much appreciated!
